  • 1.  Mapinfo16x64 Behaving Oddly?

    Posted 10-07-2017 12:57

My copy of Mapinfo16x64 has starting acting strangely lately. And yes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it and the behavior continues. This does not happen in MI15.2x64.

Symptom: If I have two map windows open, and I "x" one out in the tabbed ribbon, the 2nd map still appears in the Layer Control and is still listed in the Windows list. If I click Activate on the Windows list the map will pop back up. Same for Browsers. I can never really kill a map or a browser window unless I right click in the Window/Browser list and select close.

Symptom: When working with maps, sometimes when I right click on the map, all the map tool options (pan, zoom, change view) are greyed out, as if it is not recognizing the window as an actual map window.

Symptom: I hit save window as for my map window, but the JPG created is for a browser window long closed.

It seems to me like Mapinfo is having some sort of window management error. I plan on contacting tech support on Monday, but I thought in the meanwhile someone here might have a thought. This behavior started earlier this week, and I've made no changes to Mapinfo's installation prior to that. So I'm at a loss. Re-installing did not help.

Ideas? Is Mapinfo haunted? There was a full moon this week.

    Hi Ali

I have never heard of a haunted MapInfo Pro but there is a first time for everything ... :-)

One thing worth trying, is to make sure that you have the latest patch installed. For v16.0, it is the 16.0.2 patch that can be found here:

Are you working with your windows as tabbed windows or do you have them as floating windows?

The issue seems to be resolved. Tech support asked me to delete the ribbon preferences file and let Mapinfo rebuild them, that seems to have chased the ghosts out of the machine.
