  • 1.  Setup Configuration Preferences In XenApp for all users

    We asked our I.T. department to setup the Master Citrix Xenapp Mapinfo environment by configuring several preferences so there would be a consistent user experience, however at they have finally advised that none of the preference settings are pushed to the client session of the app for the end user on commissioning.

    Our I.T. say that on provisioning the virtual app instance things like Appdata are not copied to the new session, hence why no preferences are coming through.  Our I.T. believe based on their research the answer would be Workgroups, however I don’t think that is right as the preference to turn on workgroups is on the same dialog box as setting the directory paths so is unlikely to propagate to the client session as well.

    What is the best practice setup of the xenapp environment for Mapinfo Pro 16?

    • Is Workgroups an Answer?
    • Or should it be writing the preferences to the client session on commissioning
    • Or do we have to set the preferences for every user manually then save to the local cache
      • Is there an easy way to do this

     

    Hoping this makes sense and has an easy solution.

    Normally you would expect the Roaming part of the user profile to be save and used when ever the user logs on again.

    This is also where MapInfo Pro would look for the Preference files, typically

    MapInfo AppData Roaming

    On my laptop, the path is like this: C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\MapInfo\MapInfo

    where Peter is my Windows Username.

    But I assume that's not the case here?

    Hi Jason,

    Engineering advises to review the MapInfoProfessionalInstallGuide.pdf to run the WorkGroups installation process on page 54.

    Work Group installation sets registry keys so that when MapInfo Pro launches it gets the AppData files it needs from the specified location.

    With XenApp installations, the System Admin will need to have a dedicated server to host a MapInfo Pro License Server (distributed license) as MapInfo Pro Nodelock license are not supported connecting to XenApp Citrix environment.
