  • 1.  Trying to work on a map in a Layout in MapInfo is a STRUGGLE

    I have been working on projects that should only take me a couple of hours to do but is turning into at least a days work because MapInfo just isn't coping with me working on a map open in a Layout window. Zooming in and out, panning, selecting and ?even one click to add a label is taking a minute of MapInfo 'Not Responding', screen freezing and sometimes even crashing and forcing itself to shut down and sometimes resulting in a loss of work! The datasets I am working with are not large and nothing compared to what I work with usually. When I work on the map in just a Map Window and not a layout it seems fine but obviously when I add a Map Window to the Layout I need to be able to adjust things without these issues occurring as it makes my day(s) a lot less productive and becomes quite frustrating!

    Please help.

    I'm sorry to hear about your struggle, Jemima.

    Can you in any way share your data/workspace or maybe just describe what type of data you are working, vector layers as well raster background maps?

    Also what version of MapInfo Pro are you using?

    Hi Peter,

    The layers I am using is our LG area cadastre, a  layer representing water bodies (polylines), road names layer (text), Shire Boundaries and remnant vegetation (polygons).

    I am using MapInfo version 16 (64bit) and have recently upgraded to the MapInfo Discover 2016 Bundle.  ?

    Hi Jemima,

    1. Are you working on a workspace that is local to a PC? or a network share? Opening and saving across a network can be slower depending on bandwidth via network.
    2. If you go to your Start Menu > Devices and Printers, do you have MapInfo Pro or another Printer driver set as the default? device

     

    1. What is the printer being used, the layout size you are working with?size_printer
    2. If you click on Home > Page Setup > it will tell you. Also you can click on Pro > Options > Printer, and make sure it is set to MapInfo Preferred unless you are printing or outputting to specific printer.
    3. Also, can you try the following before opening the workspace. Click on Pro > Options > Startup and uncheck the following: Restore and Save Printer Information. Click OK. and Re-open the workspace. Let me know if this helps.
