  • 1.  Why do I get this error message "1402 Could Not Open Key" when installing MapInfo Pro?

    Error 1402 Could not Open Key is not a fun error to resolve however we have a solution for you.

    The error is caused by overly restrictive security settings, including, but not limited to::

    • OS, service or application startup failures
    • Authentication or authorization failures
    • Resource access failures on the local or a remote computer
    • OS upgrades, QFE service pack and application installs
    • Group policy changes
    • User rights assignments
    • Security templates

    It has become a pretty common error with user who have insufficient rights and difficulties with installing other applications as well. This article has been my lucky charm.

    If I know a computer has issue even before I install an application, i will use this article. It makes it a lot easier having not to uninstall, remove registry entries, hidden files, and rerun the application.
