  • 1.  Layer Tools Ribbon

I have tended to use the "double-click" (old) process of accessing the Layer Properties dialog in the Layer Control. So I have tried to use the Layer Tools Ribbon but find that this is not presenting me with a better option. For example, all the Style options are greyed out until you hit the Apply Styles button (which isn't obvious). Why are they greyed out??

I think the idea is not to confuse the users. The styles wouldn’t be displayed until you have turned on Style Override. And users could think it was weird that the styles they set don’t display in the map window.

Hmmm - I don't think that is obvious @Peter HorsbΓΈll MΓΈller?. One for the Design Team perhaps. It is more obvious to use the swatch in front of the layer name in the Layer Control.

Also - there is a different colour picker for font colour on the Labels ribbon and it doesn't match the colours used everywhere else!?

The Font picker on the Labels tab is for the Labels font. Maybe @Eric Robinson can comment on the ideas behind the disabled controls. I agree. In most cases using the layer swatch will be easier than using the style pickers on the Layer tab.

Also at the moment the Zoom Layering is missing from the Layets tab which I personally think is a crucial part missing. That’s probably the one thing after style overrides I change mostly on layers.

Yes, but the Font COLOUR picker is a different ?tool and set of colours!

I agree, the Zoom Layering needs adding as a crucial element.

Right, the color pickers directly on the ribbon are different compared to the "classic" color pickers you see for instance in the Object Style dialogs

Indeed - and if your object is colour K13, you cannot match the label to the same colour K13, for example?.

This idea might be worth voting for, John:
