  • 1.  How does one modify styles for an entire layer in MapInfo Pro?

    Posted 04-30-2018 23:26

Rhetorical, however I could never understand, even following the simple "How To's:", why my regions weren't updating!

    Checklist:

    1. No Style Override
    2. Layer is editable
    3. Table or individual features are selected
    4. Once the features are selected, ensure the Map Window is active.

I tried several unsuccessful times to modify region styles of a layer with the first three points but the last point was only found after many guess and checks.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

    Hello Nicholas,

You're right about this behaviour, although I was just curious - can you please provide an example of what actions you take after point 3. which makes the Map Window inactive?

Once we know the entire scenario, it should help us to better understand why this behaviour might be encountered in the first place. 🙂

    Thanks,

    Hi Dave,

When I'm selecting all the records by opening up the table (F2) and clicking on the empty box in the upper left-side of the table it causes the Map Window to become inactive.

I've just realised a simpler step is to just right-click in the layer window and then click "Select All from..."

That in itself will probably save me some time.

    Cheers

Thanks for clarifying. The reason for this behaviour when editing map object styles might be that perhaps it was intended for users to be working within the map window exclusively whilst applying new styles hence why when records are being selected from the browser window and the map window is no longer active then toggling the style does not take effect.

However, perhaps sometimes users may want to select specific records from the browser window and if a user has a tiled view in place such as in the screenshot below, where certain records are selected from the browser I can see where this kind of scenario you described may be encountered. In this case, the map window would need to be activated by clicking once in the map window tab before updating the style.

Perhaps this behaviour is something which someone from our Engineering team would be able to provide some feedback on as to whether it is working as designed? 🙂
