    What is the normal location of the XML file with smart texts to use in the Layout Designer?

    The SmartText Alias files can be found here:

    C:\Users\PE009MO\AppData\Roaming\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\1700\SmartTextAliases.xml,

    That's the Roaming folder under %AppData%

    Do note that the file doesn't exist until you have used your first SmartText Alias in a layout.
