I'm trying to merge some images together within MapInfo but it keeps failing and I believe it's due to the images containing different bands. One has four bands and the other has a single band (greyscale). Both of the images are in black and white so I was wondering is there anyway to convert the multibanded image to a single band image, to hopefully fix the MRR error.

The error just says that "Input Rasters are not compatable for raster merge operation" and under the log file it mentions there is an "incompatable band count in..." and then it lists which ever raster was not used as the reference image (I.e. the one with the yellow star)

If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to extract a single band from your multi band raster, you can use the Raster Calculator to extract the one band you want into a new raster file.

1. Hit the New button on the Inputs tab
2. Select the raster with multiple bands in the dropdown next to the new Input you just have created
3. Click the Insert button on the Inputs tab, to copy the new Input to the Expression area.
4. Type [ using the keyboard, then select the band to expract.
5. Type ] using the keyboard
6. Check the More options to see if they match your expectations, If not modify them.
7. Specify an output name or use the default name
8. Hit Compute to save the selected band into a new raster file.
