OS raster maps and 64-bit MapInfo

Are you finding that MapInfo Pro is sluggish opening up your workspaces?

As I go around the country visiting clients, I often find that the Ordnance Survey data is in a read-only folder on the server or only a few key users have write-access. Good, you don't want inadvertent editing or deletion of your base maps. However, the first time that you try and open your raster base maps - 1:50K, 1:25K, VectorMap Local or OpenMap Local - then your new version16 will attempt to write the new pyramid index files (look for .pprc and .ghx files being created). This becomes an issue if you are unable to write these files.

This is a one-off operation and viewing your raster maps will be much, much faster once the index files have been written. There is a switch under your Options> Preferences to switch this feature off but we recommend that you do take advantage of this feature.

So, either copy the raster files locally where you can build the index files (and then copy them back to the server) or enable someone with write-access to open the tables/seamless tables.

And start enjoying that promised performance.
