  • 1.  Extra Field when establishing a relathionship

    Hi,

When creating a relationship between items when our environment, we have a use cases where it is require to present more than just the single 'NAME' field to the end user when creating relationship between 2 items.

Is this possible and how do we achieve this?

For more content we would like to link our Data Assets to our Products (or the other way around). The table/grid showing the products will show as defined in the configuration settings. Allow us the display the Product Name, Product Version and Product Status.

However, when the end user clicks the add button, only the NAME field is displayed and when the product hold various versions, many of the same names are displayed.

Both NAME and PRODUCT VERSION are set as key fields to create the correct dimensionality and allow the bulk loading of the products, however this does not seem to effect the fields viewed via the GUI and only NAME is displayed.

The however functionality does work (after a use clicks on a record) but this is a counter-intuitive thing to train out and is going to impact on adoption and raised queries into the central mailbox useless there is a better solution.

    Many Thanks

    John

    Hello John,

You can do it by selecting Display format as both Field names combined . See below example

By changing Display format Products Asset type thru Config->Business Asset ->Edit -> For Example select Display format as Name and Status then you will see both Name and status field while selecting asset from related assets tab but on the definition page also you will see name as both "Name and Status" .

    Attached Screen prints.

Then go to Business Asset and add another asset thru related assets tab, you will see Name and Status in Name field while adding

And then you will see same Name and Status combined in Definition page too

Please let me know if you had any question ?

Perfect - That is a great solution and although it does feel like a bit of a blunt workaround (e.g. building a compound key in this way does allow for proper filtering and sorting ), it certainly gives me what I need to help the end users pick the right product that relates to a data asset.

It does seem to have created another issue though....

As you can see in the picture below, the compound text is showing on the Product Asset in the title [Address Validation - Version number] so all working there.

You will also see the Data Assets on the related asset tab is showing the compound text for Asset name - [sales status]. Again this is great. And when I click the [+] icon, this compound text is shown to help product owners only select "Live" assets.

However, I no longer be able to add extra fields to the grid view. (before you press the [+] button). I used to be able to select the listable field and sort order to create proper grid show 3 seperate fields of [NAME], [STATUS] &, [DESCRIPTION]

How can I have BOTH options, the compound key for the adding new relationships and also showing the 3 (or more) fields to the grid to pull through all the relevant information I need.

    Any thoughts?

    Hello John,

I think you are expecting to see More Fields on related assets grid as well as the compound key and here is the example and screen print.

For Fields on Related Assets grid, you need to select the Fields as Key Field in Config->Business Assets -> Fieldname -> Part of Key then you can see the Fields on the grid. And simultaneously you will have both compound key (Display Format change)  and  Fields on grid .

    Screen prints attached:

    And display format

    Hello John,

And also we would like to say that we are currently in the process of redesigning this page and we will consider the inputs you have provided.
