I’ve noticed when using SSA on mobile (iPhone) the export the map to PDF still works. On iPhone it give you the option to open in iBook’s. This is great.

 

However, it’s not so great when you want to export a CSV (e.g.: results of a query). After selecting Export all pages as CSV nothing happens. I appreciate that an iPhone is not a desktop PC and it doesn’t know to open the csv in MS Excel, for example.

However it would be nice if SSA could give you the option of opening the export

in something (iBooks or Numbers (the iOS spreadsheet app)). An option to view

in something -even if it mean the users downloading an app- would be better than the nothing that you get now.

Couple of questions,

When you have a csv on your iphone can you open it natively without having numbers open first? my understanding was that numbers needs to import a csv into its own format. ?So doesn't actually have csv registered as a file extension / format within the app itself, pretty sure that csv needs to be registered within the app when it its compiled to open natively.

maybe a way around it is to setup a permanent file download folder for your browser, then at least you would know where it has been saved to.

Hi Peter, Thanks for the reply. You started by saying “When you have a csv on your iPhone”. The problem is I never actually have the .csv on the phone. After pressing Export all pages as CSV nothing happens – there is no action or result, even if Numbers is open. I think my point in the original post is that it would be good if SSA on iPhone, or another smart phone, gave the user an option to open the .csv (as a .csv or equivalent propriety format) or the content of the .csv in app on the phone. On an iPhone I would suggest Numbers if opening as a table (although I’m sure there are other apps out there) or iBook’s for displaying just a list of the results. Moreover, it would be good for SSA to get to a point where it offers this (like how it does with exporting Print Preview PDFs into iBooks) without having to register or add settings etc. In others words have SSA offer something when exporting query results (even it means the users having to download an app) rather than the nothing it offers now. Ah it sounds like the export process is simply broken for the iphone, definitely one for the development team to investigate I think.

Yes the team are looking at the issue.

This is now resolved. Two things are required:

 

Firstly, iOS 11.1.2 is required. Although it may well be the case that anything 11+ would also be good too. Basically, any iOS 10+ is no good for this task.

 

Secondly, the 'Block Pop-ups' switch in Settings>Safari needs to be set to No.

 

Once those two items are in place when you export a PDF you'll see an Apple window inviting you to select [open in ] More...

 

Numbers is then availiable as one of the Open In options in the next page.

 

I can't speak fro Android and other apps, but this is at least the method for iPhone.
