As an administrator I can't anticipate every combination of layers for every user - an ability to reorder the layers (even temporarily) would be very useful

?Is your need to reorder the legend, the layers, both? Independently? Not only are those different but we do get requests about the legend visibility, for example, that it would be good to understand.  Removing an item from the legend is one example but I guess reordering would be similar.  Can you and others share your thoughts on what you are trying to do?

Reordering the legend alone may have some use but is unimportant given the only the active layers are printed in the final legend anyway (and my director asked for a template without the legend because the existing format is messy anyway).

In Exponare there was a feature to reorder the layers. This could be useful where a solid layer is above another layer. At the moment we can make the solid layer translucent but with things like the Local Environmental Plan maps, there are actually State government imposed style guides on the colouring and ideally for uniformity and readability purposes, you probably wouldn't fade out those layers (for example)

Reordering layers is high on the list of features for the next version of Analyst. You can also permanently reorder layers within a map in the current version of Spectrum Spatial Manager  So if you did not get the order right or something changes you can do that for all the users of that  map.

Just to be clear, the SSA admin console lets you reorder "maps within a configuration". Spectrum Spatial Manager now lets you reorder "Layers within a map". Different.  If you have one layer per map, which I have seen, then there is no real difference.

Oh! No I didn't realise that. That could save a bit of time.

I am referring to the end user being able to re-order in the map, rather than the admin making a permanent change.
