It's SAP thing - the messages are parameterized.
Please note sometimes more than the object number is parameterized. For Example & or &1 will return a document type and &2 would return the document number. So you will need to play around with it to return just what you want.
I use the same &1 for generated material for MM01 in an S4 system:

Other than that, you can put text in the message transforms, in addition to using the & , which means &1 or the first parameter or &2 etc.
It's a great pro tip I learned a few years after trying to use formulas to parse the output, which isn't ideal, especially if you have global users using different languages, and thus the SAP messages change.
