  • 1.  Running Scripts in a production environment with Firefighter

    Posted 04-30-2021 06:56
    Hello,
I have researched the above in the community but cannot find the exact scenario.

I normal circumstances we will create and test scripts in our QA client where we have access to all transactions and these will then be executed in production by users who have access to the transaction and we only have display access so all is good.

For project work we will need to upload or change data ourselves in production, we do not have Firefighter active in our QA clients and for obvious reasons we cannot records scripts in production.

How do we record scripts in QA that can be run in Firefighter (FF) mode in production. I have read 'Using Transaction with Virsa FireFighter or GRC' but this seems to suggest that FF mode needs to be active in the recording.

    Hi Robert

    Basically:
    • firefighter has to be enabled in Studio,
    • scripting has to be on in the SAP system
    • you are limited to GUI scripting mode scripts

This is some information in our documentation: https://docs.winshuttle.com/studio-en-12-1-x-online-help-studio-w-connect/12/Transaction-with-VirsaFirefighter.htm
and also on our support site (support.winshuttle.com): https://support.winshuttle.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023689871-You-must-launch-SAP-GUI-session-through-Virsa-Firefighter

    HI Sigrid,
I am also looking for a solution wherein we can run the script in Production.
As per the setup in our project, the developer is creating scripts in Dev/QA environment which is then executed in production by users who have access to the transaction and developer only have display access so all is good.

but For project work the developer will need to upload or change data in production using the same scripts. How can we achieve this .?
    When I read documentation
    : https://docs.winshuttle.com/studio-en-12-1-x-online-help-studio-w-connect/12/Transaction-with-VirsaFirefighter.htm
it basically says that I would have to create a new script using GRC ID.
Can we not use the existing scripts (build in Dev/QA).?

    Hi Aakansha

We do not work around SAP permissions, so you have two choices:

    (1) use an SAP ID that has permission to the tcode in prod

    (2) use a firefighter ID in prod - description of how in my first reply

Aakansha - You can execute the same scripts in Production but you have to login with Firefighter id dialog user type.

    Hi,

I still am not 100% clear on this but based on what I have read in the replies to this post and our scenario of:

    • We do not have Firefighter (FF) active in our QA system
    • Our FF user in production is a service user and not dialog so we cannot directly log into it

My conclusions are that in our current scenario, the only way for project users who only have FF access to production would be to have FF user id that is a dialog on not a service user, this way we could record and run the scripts in the normal way.

Please could you confirm that my assumptions are correct so we can then move forward and decide our strategy going forward.

    Regards

    Rob
