  • 1.  Excel AddIn Opening Freezing

    Posted 04-27-2021 06:30
I am working within a large organisation, so I do not have options for reinstalling or resetting my own Profile.
To use the Excel AddIn I open Excel by opening the AddIn from the Start Menu.

If (for any reason) Excel crashes, the Excel AddIn will no longer initialise Excel successfully and it just hangs on "starting".

Currently the only solution I have is asking our IT Support to reset my Profile (obviously annoying), so I was wondering if anyone has any idea if there is a better resolution, or even a solution that I might be able to do myself.

    hi James,

first of all, it all depends which operating system you're working on.
I do all my working on a Win10 system, so that's all I can comment on: I would start by rebooting the computer. You may want to try in taskmanager to end Excel in "details" tab of the task manager: typically there still is part of Excel running in the backgroud when you get some crash, terminating all of it in taskmanager may help you. Afterwards, just restart Excel. It did help me on several occasions.

    good luck !

    I'm on Win10. Sadly this doesn't work.

Luckily this time it only took our IT Support an hour to get round to it, whereas last time it took a week.

    Hi James

If killing Excel in Taskman doesn't work, I would suggest opening a support ticket at support.winshuttle.com, and looping in someone from IT, to ensure everything can be covered when you meet.

You can also search for prior issues with the add-in there, in case one of the articles helps you.  This one may or may not apply - particularly the part about enabling the add-in if it somehow gets disabled because of an issue in Excel:  https://support.winshuttle.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023446412-Winshuttle-Excel-Add-in-is-not-appearing  You may not be able to do everything this article recommends without admin rights, but it does step thru Excel options to try to enable the Winshuttle COM add-in.

    Best Regards,
    Sigrid
