  • 1.  Read and Maintain Material Master Record Classification

    Posted 01-04-2021 12:19
    Hello,

I need support in following cases:
    - Read classification information from material master record via bulk, for many material numbers, by query or skript with  Winshuttle
    - Maintain classification via bulk with a skript, e.g. MM02

You have some best practice ideas?
I am using Winshuttle Studio 12.1.1

    Regards,
    Marco

    Hi Marco,

There is a template to update class characteristics on the community site here:  https://community.winshuttle.com/sap-module-templates/viewdocument/change-material-class-001-charact?CommunityKey=8a12989f-fefe-4b81-8147-4bbb11af6820&tab=librarydocuments

You can either use a Transaction script, BAPI or Query to extract them.  It depends on whether all materials will have the same one(s) or not.  If not, then a Query is best.  Note that SAP stores character, numeric and currency in separate fields.    Attaching an example Query for material characteristics based on one class, in case that gets you started.

    Best Regards,
    Sigrid

    Hi Sigrid,

Thank you, that information is helpful. There is one problem in Query Mode: How can I match table KSSK with table MARA-MATNR? The attribute OBJEK delivers an long number but this is not the real material number of the objekt.

    Regards,
    Marco

Hi Marco - the object number in KSSK is long because it's used for many objects in SAP, not just material characteristics.  It does contain the material number, otherwise the query would not have worked.  It may not run as efficiently, but it does work.  Give it a try.

    Best Regards,
    Sigrid

Hi Marco - My real material number is like "SK-2000" and the object key in KSSK has "SK-2000" in it.  I'm not sure why you don't.  Perhaps you can check with your Basis team.
    Check this post - https://answers.sap.com/questions/8626070/mara-kssk.html
You could also use a BAPI to return the classification values:  BAPI_OBJCL_GETDETAIL

    Marco,

I have had need to interrogate the classification information for the material master and found that using a script similar to the mm02 script example from WS to be helpful.  In the case of the script they provide, if you change the mapping direction on line 37 (expert view) from "upload to SAP" to "download from SAP", the script will return the existing values for the material and characteristics in the 001 class.

If you need to look at another class, then you can change the program.  If you are looking at the same characteristic(s) for a large number of materials, you can also "hard code" the characteristics into the program and not use a loop but just repeat the call for the characteristic with each characteristic and return the characteristic value in a different column.  If you need additional information, let me know and I'll see what I can show you (sometimes it can be a little tricky).

Hi Gail, I hope it is possible for you to share a flat file with hard-coded characteristics which can download a fixed structure of characteristics which can then be used as an upload file also to create these same characteristics for another material. Or please share some examples of what you do have to give some further insight on how users are tackling this classification requirement to read from one material and then maintain on another. Thank you in anticipation!
