  • 1.  Selecting tables in Query

    Posted 09-13-2020 18:31
    Hi All,
Hopefully this question isn't too trivial. I've scoured Google and forums for answers with little success.
I am attempting to load some tables into the Query workspace for a project. I tracked the table name down by running the related transaction, clicking on the relevant fields and clicking F1 -> Technical Information, so I know that the table has meaningful content.

However, when I tried to add the table to the workspace I got the attached error. I found lots of information on what a transparent, cluster, view or pool tables are. But I have no idea what this table is, since it's evidently not one of those things.

Does anyone have any idea if there is something wrong with my approach, and if there is an alternate way to extract the desired information? The data I am attempting to extract is related to Plant Maintenance. There appears to be other tables (with different names) in the Data Dictionary with the relevant information, but I have no idea if my report will extract meaningful information if I use them.

    Thanks for your help, everyone.

    Hi Arlene -

I am able to add IFLO just fine. When you search for it in Query, does it end up in the search results? Can you add it from the Search results?  I have sent you a .qsq file that just has IFLO in it, are you able to open that and work from it?

Do you have issues with adding other tables, in general?

    Thank you!

    Hi Jenny,
Table IFLO was an example, but for IFLO can find the table in the Query search but when I try to add it to the Workspace, it triggers the error.
I can open the file you sent me and view IFLO's fields in the workspace.
When I went to synchronize the tables under the plant maintenance category in the data dictionary, the error came up for several tables.
As for the tables I found by checking the Technical Information Fields in SAP (see original post), I cannot find them in the Data Dictionary or the Table Search. These tables are: CAUFVF, AFVGD, CORUF, AFRUD.

    See attachments for details.
    Thanks for your help,
    Arlene

    Hi Arlene -

Are you able to add any table using Query?  Is this an issue specific to you trying to use those tables or any tables?  Are you able to use Query successfully with any table(s)?

CAUFVF, AFVGD, CORUF, AFRUD are not tables, they are structures.  Winshuttle Studios does not support structures.

    Thank you!

    Hi Jenny,
I am able to add other tables to Query. I tried syncing some other random categories in the data dictionary and received the same error for a different set of tables. I am most concerned with being able to properly access/sync the tables under Plant Maintenance though.

If you could explain to me how I opened up a work order, retrieved the technical information for a field I wanted to include in my Query script and got the name of a structure, that would be appreciated. :)

    Hi Arlene -

If you are having issues with accessing certain tables it could be a permissions issue.  If there have been no restrictions put on yourself for access within SAP then it may be something else. It might be best for you to open up a Support ticket.

As far as why you got returned a structure, some fields do not live in tables, they only live in structures. And structures are not tables, but temporary ways of grouping and holding data for display or manipulation purposes. If something does not live in a table and only in a structure, Winshuttle cannot read from it. If that field does also live in an underlying table (it may, it may not) then you can read from that table.

    Thank you,

    Hi Jenny,
Thanks for clarifying that. Is there any way to determine if a structure has an underlying table?
    Cheers,
    Arlene

    Hi Arlene -

According to google results, you can do a search within SAP using SE84.

    Thanks!
