We have so many means of communication, we tend to get stuck on the ones we use most frequently. This WFH time has provided me an opportunity to have meetings via Teams, Webex, Skype and Zoom. I think, of all options, Teams was the least resource heavy, as well as easiest to navigate. Webex is great, but it slows everything way down, including Winshuttle so it makes me want to bang my head off my desk. The upside, it has afforded me the opportunity to really see where my 1st grade daughter is with her learning. While simple to us grownups, it can be quite difficult for them. And this new math, I don't even know, but I am learning it right along with her.

It really has been a huge adjustment to move our global operations into a "Work from Home" (WHF) state pretty much overnight. I'm thrilled to share that our team has risen to the occasion and very quickly adjusted to this new way of working, almost without skipping a beat. We're all having to share our space with our families and pets who are often "contributing" to web meetings or sometimes interrupting our "focused work time" to support them with their areas of focus or interest.
As we manage through our third week of WHF and reflect on the ways in which we are working and overcoming these new challenges there have been some really positive side benefits that I'm confident we will carry though in our business as usual … when things settle down again. The most notable, ironically in a state of isolation, is being more connected. The three areas that I feel have made the biggest difference here are:
- Using web cams in almost all calls and meetings has had a huge impact on our connectivity as a team. Hard work at first as it really needs to bed down as a normal thing for all calls – make the call, turn camera on, start conversation. A visually connected call feels more meaningful and the team seem to be embracing this completely now.
- Ensuring that our regular cadence of check ins, one to ones and team meetings still happened in the same way that they were before. Routine is important and keeps us focused on the pulse of the business at hand
- Implementing daily team huddles and sticking to them. Without the coffee room / water cooler banter being available …. These are great ways to catch up and stay connected, even if it's only 15 mins in the mornings. Some teams have even implemented weekly happy hours and invited family members to join in.
So, on reflecting on the above I thought of you, our customers. It would be wonderful to use this forum to share ideas and benefits of how Winshuttle is helping you better manage in your roles working from home. From upload scripts, queries, workflows, anything that you feel the community could benefit from would be appreciated - so please share your wins if you can.
Wishing you all the very best … stay safe
