MapInfo Pro Developers User Group

MapInfo Pro has a lot of features and functions built-in but sometimes you need to grab an extension often in the form of a MapBasic tool to get that extra mile.

These tools basically help you in one of two ways:

• The extend the ability of MapInfo Pro
• The automate processes of MapInfo Pro

If you look at the tools you are using in your daily work, which of these are you using most or do you benefit mostly from?

This can be MapBasic tools that come with MapInfo Pro, your own custom tools, tools from the Community Download page or tools from other download pages, such as mapinfotools.com.

Also it would be helpful if you briefly mention what the tool does and how it helps you. Screndumps are also most welcome.

The built-in tools I use most often include Coordinate Extractor, Distance Calculator, Proportional Overlap and Spider Graph. My personal favourite, however, is a tool in MapInfo RouteFinder that is called Nearest Center.

Service Area works like the Voronoi calculation in standard MapInfo, but instead of using crow-flight distance the calculation is based on the road network using the current RouteFinder settings (walk or drive, nearest or shortest, etc.). The calulation is rapid, and the resulting catchment areas around points representing schools, stores, fire stations, etc. are extremely useful!
