I have a requirement to connect to a SQL 2008 R2 server. I generally have no trouble or rather if I do it's pretty straight forward to fix. not so this case.
I ran through the normal process in V16 connecting an ODBC server and database. I used SQL credentials and TEST connection OK.
I changed the default database to the desired target.
I'm presented with a table selection dialog.
I changed the option from Live to Linked. Select a table and the table opens.
All as expected.
However after closing Mapinfo and re-opening the existing configured ODBC connection Mapinfo will not connect to the database.

I have triple checked my process and credentials and this is consistent.
I also tried opening the linked table and attempting a Server Refresh. this follows the identical pattern described above.
It's as though the initial connection process is setting a state that is lost when attempting to use the connection from a "cold" start.
I tested the same connection with an old MI 8.5 license and it's fine. Performs precisely as expected.
Any thoughts?
