This may be due to a mismatch in the architecture of your base LAE software and the LAL installer. If you are running a 32-bit version of LAE then you must also install the 32-bit version of the LAL installer. From the file path you mentioned above it looks like you are trying to install the 64-bit version of LAL which will only install on a 64-bit version of LAE.

If you check the contents of the LAE install directory you should see a range of sub-folders (.install4j, bin, conf, docs, ... etc) plus the license files and uninstall executable file.

- For 64-bit LAE these folders should exist under 'C:\Program Files\Lavastorm\LAE6.1' (assuming the default location was chosen when LAE was installed)
- For 32-bit LAE these folders should exist under 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Lavastorm\LAE6.1' (again, assuming the default location was chosen when LAE was installed).

Adrian, thanks for the reply. I am running 64-bit Windows, but our help desk installed a network version of Lavastorm that is 32-bit. I don't have an 'LAL...' folder under the install directory, so does that mean the help desk didn't install it with the original install? Will this new install work without LAL being previously installed? I did create an 'LAL6.1' folder and re-tried the install, but got the same error...

I did re-download the LAL file from the link you sent and tried to install it, but I still get the same error as before. Any other ideas? I appreciate your help!

There was a typo in the paths mentioned in my previous reply - apologies for the confusion. The 'LAL6.1' should have been 'LAE6.1'. The corrected paths are now included in the original post.

It is possible to install the 64-bit or 32-bit version of LAE on a PC with a 64-bit architecture. However, the version of LAL needs to reflect the LAE version you have installed.
So in your case you would need to download the installer from the 'Windows 32-bit' link on the downloads page, i.e.

Adrian, thanks for your help. I have successfully installed LAL 6.1, but now I'm seeing a different issue. When I first open up BRE, I get a window saying "Unable to locate common BRE ProgramData location in registry to configure user specific preferences from template". I've searched this forum but can find no references to this or anything similar; I also did a Google search that came up with nothing.

When I click 'OK' in this window, it opens up BRE and says it's trying to connect to a server on localhost (which I don't have). After eventually clicking through all the popup windows, I get to a blank canvas, and my Preferences are empty (telling me that they're not being saved, or BRE can't find them?). Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation? Thanks.

You can examine the bre.ini files in, say notepad/ notepad++ to understand the structure and to see which version of LAE they were related to (e.g. by using the LAE version number in the file various paths). This should also show the server farms which were defined in BRE (look for the 'ServerFarm' stanzas).

One thing you could try would be to identify which bre.ini files you have on your system and then, when BRE is shut down, rename them so they won't be used. If you then start BRE it will use the default bre.ini file to recreate a new bre.ini file for your user on the machine. As the default BRE does not include any remote server farms it will still try to use a local server when a graph is run. You can use the information from the (renamed) bre.ini files to set up the relevant server farms.

From the Tools --> Preferences menu select the 'Server Farms' tab. You should have a 'Local Desktop' and example 'Enterprise Server' server farm shown in the Farm Name list. Select the Enterprise Server entry and click on the 'Edit Farm...' button above the list (alternatively use either the 'New' or 'Duplicate' buttons to create a new server farm item in the list). A new 'Server Farm <Farm_Name>' dialogue window will open. Configure the server farm properties for the target server farm (refer to your renamed bre.ini files for details of previously configured farms). Ok out of the dialogues and when you are back at the main BRE window, use the Server Farm drop-down control in the menu (3rd from the right) to select the required server farm.

Adrian, while it's possible that I did have multiple bre.ini files previously, I uninstalled LAE 4.6 last week, and now when I search my C:\ drive I only come up with the 6.1 bre.ini file.

I'm still seeing this message come up. Everything else works fine, so this issue isn't causing a problem; it's more of an annoying pop-up... as long as I can work in LAE, I guess it's not THAT big of a deal and I can live with it... thanks.
