    I have both LAE 4.6 and LAE 5.0 on my laptop and there should not be any issues with viewing the existing BRD files in 5.0. During the installation process you can specify the Temporary File Directory and can point this to your existing folder.

    You should first test this with something you can afford to lose... just to make sure that it works.
    During the installation, you can pick a new temp folder without hurting old temp files.

    When you open a BRG, it's companion BRP file points to a BRS file. The BRS file has the file links to all the (old) temp files.
    LAE 5.0 (should not) change any of those links just because you opened it in the new version.
    Any NEW temp files will be placed in the new folder, but it should have no problem reading the OLD temp files.

    That's good to hear. Just to make sure, would I be able to open the 4.6 projects in 5.0 and continue from the old analysis situation (based on the old temp files) with 5.0 as long as the BRP and BRS file of each project point to the correct temp folder?
