    Go to Tools...Preferences on the main BRE window and then select the 'Display Modes' tab. Make sure that the Record Counts check box towards the bottom and BRD Data (Green) and all the I/O Coloring check boxes are checked (ticked).

    Once, I messed up the INI file by hitting PASTE of a very long text string (with multiple separators) into the "Search Field" box by accident.
    Any chance that's what happened to you?

    I am talking about the Trace Field dropdown box on the main toolbar, not the Edit/Find option. If you type "bad data" into that field, it unfortunately can affect the ini file.

    I'm sad to report that there's no clean way out of it.. you must re-set your desired preferences manually.

    One thing you could do is rename the existing BRE.ini and then let the editor create a new one, then compare/contrast the preference settings.
    Probably better to just try to modify the current preferences back to something usable.

    Thanks for the help everyone - it was the .ini file. I tried to reconfigure it based on an associate's .ini file but in the end it was faster to delete it entirely and have BRE recreate it.
