  • 1.  Random Point Selection Within Grid Tiles

    Posted 09-05-2022 00:15
    Hi

I have received a large number of received RF signal survey results. Each datapoint has lat/longs so I have been able to create Mapinfo points from this data.

Also there is a coverage service area grid made up of  200m x 200m tiles.

The TIA TSB88.c standard for coverage complinace states that only one survey point can be assigned to each tile.

Where there is more than one survey point in a tile, one of the survey points must be randomy chosen to be assined to the tile.

Can Mapinfo do this random selection automatically ?

    cheers Gerard

    Hi Gerard

You can use the Update Column method to update your service area grid with the ID from your RF Signal Surveys.

It won't be fully random more like either the first or the last point in the RF Signal Survey table inside the grid cell. Will that do it?

    1. Add a new column to your grid table to hold the ID from the RF Signal Survey.
    2. Use the Update Column feature and use these settings
    a. Select to update the Coverage Service Grid Area table
    b. Select the newly added column
    c. Select to get the values from the RF Signal Survey table.
    d. Click specify Join and make sure it has been set RF Signal Survey point is within Coverage Service Grid Area region
    e. Finally, select to get the value from the ID column from the RF Signal Survey table
