I saw a demo, and they created a REST API leveraging AI to grab data from an image of a doc (they were working on PDF) and populated the form.
The form then gets routed to an approver, and another REST API leveraging AI would recommend what to check.
They then posted to SAP via a regular script.

Subject: OCR reading PDF data into Evolve forms
Hey Sigrid
Thanks so much for your thoughts on this.
Whatever the AI solution would be that would grab and prepare that data, what Evolve API / endpoint though would it post to to prefill a form, for example? Perhaps the SAP Data API or Digital Access API? I ask because I'm wondering when that data is in a structured format, and say it could be posted using REST principles, which part of Evolve would receive it so that a form is created and partially filled in?
Likewise, would love to hear any thoughts from the community on this.
Best regards,
Raphael

Hi Raphael
Our partner created their own APIs. I only know that they used Open AI, so I don't have a lot to offer other than that.
If anyone else has ideas, please share. It's a great use case and doable, but it will also take some effort.
Best Regards,
Sigrid

Hi Sigrid
Thanks for your reply.
I imagine using AI to extract the data is the way to go, and then POST it to an endpoint using a middleware script such that it prefills an Evolve form, which can then be reviewed / corrected / having missing fields filled in.
What endpoint or API would you suggest is best in this use case?
Thank you,
Raphael

Hi Raphael
We don't have anything out-of-the- box to perform something like this in Evolve.
We do have a partner who has used AI to accomplish something like this, where it scans an image/pdf and populates the form with the data. They took it a step further and recommend areas to review for an approver via AI. I don't have the details on how it was implemented, but it is possible.
Hope that helps a little.
Best Regards,
Sigrid

Subject: OCR reading PDF data into Evolve forms
Hello!
We have a workflow where we have Evolve forms for Vendor and Customer creation, for example, and have supporting PDF documents attached. Often though, the supporting documents contain information that then needs to be manually entered by the Form user, despite it existing inside the documents.
Similarly, we are doing manual data entry in another use case where we have scanned PDF files, and we are uploading direct to SAP reading off those files which is a time consuming process.
My question is what approaches are available or best for automating these workflows? For the first situation, some sort of OCR bridge that hooks the machine-readable data taken from the PDF files into an Evolve form automatically, and then the Form user can fill in fields that were not able to be populated and review if there were any errors in the transfer of data from PDF to Form.
In the second situation, we'd want to introduce Evolve in between the data scan step and the manual entry into SAP, ideally taking that scanned data and auto plugging it into an Evolve form, to then handle the upload to SAP, reducing manual error and time from a user.
Any thoughts or directions from the community as to how to tackle this? Thank you!
