Ironstream for IBM Z v2.1 – Support Announcement – Key functionality
Abstract
Ironstream software on z/OS provides a means of streaming a wide variety of data to Splunk, Kafka and many other destinations. The license keys used to control its capabilities that are now being provided enforce more granular and contractually accurate controls.
Overview of Features and Functionality
Ironstream keys have until now been of the 'short' style, 16 characters long. This key encapsulated CPU serial number and expiry date checking amongst other attributes. Ironstream has evolved a number of targets to which it can send data: Splunk, Kafka, Elastic and Generic. 'Short' keys do not control the targets that can be used.
A 'long' style key of 32 characters adds the control over where data can be sent and can be to one or more of the available targets.
These longer keys are now being created by the Precisely Fulfilment team based on a customer's live contract(s) with Precisely. With these new keys a customer who has a live contract for only one product will find they cannot use Ironstream to send data to another target, and Ironstream will fail to initialize.
If you know you are sending data to targets other than the one for which you may have a live contract, you are urged to discuss the situation with your Account Executive prior to the renewal of your Ironstream contract.
Availability
This functionality was implemented in Ironstream in v2.1.2 PTF SDF21E9 in 2020. The current PTF level is SDF21PZ, for version 2.1.8 of Ironstream.
