    Assure Security 7.0.23.00–Service Pack Notification

    Announcement

Precisely announces the release of Assure Security enhancements, designed to make your user experience more intuitive, strengthen your data security, and enable your product adaptability in cloud environments.  To acquire these enhancements, you will need to implement Assure Security Service Pack 7.0.23.00.

This release provides either a new installation or an upgrade from all previous release levels of Assure Security 7.0 and 6.0.

    Summary of Feature Additions

This release includes several enhancements including:

Assure Security certification for IBM i OS V7.6

To support our clients who have upgraded to the newest operating system from IBM, we announce a certification for our Assure Security products. This means that our software has been thoroughly tested and validated for compatibility and effectiveness of the new operating system.  This should ensure a smooth transition during an operating system upgrade while maintaining a robust security posture.

Add the Message Authenticator attribute in the MFA RADIUS client

In response to the CVE-2024-3596 RADIUS Protocol Spoofing Vulnerability of some RADIUS servers, Assure Security will now support the Message-Authenticator attribute required by the corrective patch. The customer will need to use a 16-byte secret question, which the product already accounts for, but is now documented as part of the implementation/configuration of a RADIUS server.

Removal of CTR Encryption Mode references

As the last step for the transition from the Counter (CTR) mode of encryption to Cipher Block Chaining (CBC) mode, Assure Security has removed all visibility of the previously implemented mode of encryption on our user interface and in the documentation. We support fields that have been encrypted with CTR mode, however, we strongly recommend that users convert their encryption to the newer mode, as stated below.

    Reminder

    Encryption Mode Update and Impact

With the release of Service Pack 7.0.15.00 in April 2024, we added a new encryption mode, Cipher Block Chaining (CBC) to replace Counter (CTR) mode. If you upgraded to that Service Pack or later, all new encryption definitions use the CBC encryption mode. All encryption definitions created and activated prior to the 7.0.15.00 Service Pack are encrypted using the CTR encryption mode.

We want to remind you of the following information:

    • The new CBC mode of encryption provides a stronger encryption algorithm than the previous CTR mode.
    • We strongly encourage you to update to this feature as soon as feasible to provide continuous protection to your data.
    • The transition from CTR to CBC mode will require you to end field encryption on existing fields and start field encryption using a new field procedure definition. [The detail steps for discovering encrypted fields and changing them to the new mode can be found in the Assure Security Encryption documentation.]
    • If you are interested in a more automated process, please reach out to your Account Executive to discuss an "Encrypt While Active Solution."
