I've looked through help documentation on uploading Power BI files to Govern, but there doesn't seem to be any configuration options for the refresh settings. It looks like any file will be a snapshot of the content at the time of upload, and not be updated going forward.

Are there plans/hidden functionality to look at refresh scheduling, or for integration with Power BI server and using report links from there to embed?

Hi, we would also want this. From the wording in documentation and from the UI itself (e.g. presence of an "Authentication" button) it feels like there's some feature behind the scenes that's able to refresh any PowerBI dashboard you upload, using the latest data from Govern. For example, I upload a PBXI that renders a straightforward bar chart showing the number of assets of different types; the render is fed & refreshed by some behind-the-scenes querying of Govern REST API.

Could you perhaps record a 1min video example of how you expect Govern users to be uploading (& refreshing?) a PowerBI dashboard.

The language "Target Type" is probably what's confusing us most: is it a "display target" i.e. the page on which the dashboard will be displayed to users (if so, why isn't is possible to select more than one?) or is it a "data target/source" from which PowerBI dashboards will be updated/refreshed and re-rendered (this would be a really useful feature)?

    Hello Oliver and Patrick,

    1. For the Authentication button question - it is covered by the PowerBI documentation here  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-use-directquery PowerBI supports importing datasets or DirectQuery.  If you use DirectQuery you need to be able to provide authentication information.  Thus the button, when you upload a PBIX file to PowerBI it strips authentication info from DirectQuery datasets and also we have added a task to add all these details in Govern documentation too.

    2. For Refreshing the data it can be done fir Direct query as I mentioned in my first point as PowerBI has these two options,   If you use DirectQuery option then don't need to refresh.  If you use a data source where the data is imported IE in the PBIX file then you just can upload a new PBIX.

    3. The target type dropdown allows you to configure which assets or asset types in govern display the dashboard ( applies to both DQ+ and PowerBI).  You can only currently select one per dashboard.  If you want more than one right now you would have to create multiple dashboards at the moment.  We will add a enhancement so we can support selecting more than one target type for a dashboard. The 'instance' item in this dropdown will make the dashboard appear on assets within that asset type whereas the type shows on the list page.
