Tip of the Week – Options for Errors and Fixes in Studio

When you run a script, the default is for the validate and/or run log column to show the message and color-code it if you encounter an error checking or posting the data, like below:

The errors show up in an orange color.

If you make corrections and re-run the errors, you'll also get a light green color for any row that was an error but is now fixed:

You can adjust those settings in Studio by open Studio and click Options

Then click Logs & Errors on the left

In Studio it's called Error highlighting.

Again, the errors show in an "orangey" color, and if you reprocess error rows successfully, you'll get the light green color for corrected errors.

You can click on the colors to change them click on the color dropdown

For usability, it's best to pick some shade of red/orange for errors and some shade of green for success, as most people relate those colors to errors/stop or success/go.

Alternatively, you can use Error prefixes, which is the default if you use the script in a web form or via the SAP Data API.

Prefixes are helpful for identifying errors or corrections with a lot of rows, as it can be used to filter data based on the log messages starting with "Err", for example.

If you re-process only Errors, you may see Fixed: Success if validating or a Fixed: posting message

Studio defaults to Error highlighting, because it's the same in any language and is visually easier to spot with colors.

With prefixes, the initial run has several errors and several successful postings.

In Excel, go to the Data tab and click Filter

You'll now see filters on the columns

On the log column, choose Filter – Text Filters – Begins With  - type Err: (or whatever you selected for your prefix) - click OK

You will now only see the rows with Errors to make it easy to find and correct

Then choose Run Only Errors to reprocess the rows that failed.

You can now see if your corrections worked and repeat the process, as needed

Choose the options that work best for you and the business users you support.

    Happy scripting!
