SSH Cipher Support Changes for Spectrum OnDemand
What is Changing
The Spectrum OnDemand team is set to implement a significant change by removing support for the "chacha20-poly1305" SSH cipher for batch endpoints. This alteration is expected to have minimal impact on batch workflows, assuming customers' SSH/SFTP libraries and software packages support multiple ciphers. However, if "chacha20-poly1305" is exclusively used, customers may face connectivity issues. The supported SSH ciphers post-change include "aes128-ctr", "aes192-ctr", "aes256-ctr", "aes128-gcm@openssh.com", and "aes256-gcm@openssh.com".
Impact of Change
The Spectrum OnDemand team is removing support for the "chacha20-poly1305" SSH cipher for batch endpoints.
The SSH / SFTP libraries and software packages used by customers to connect to Spectrum OnDemand's batch endpoints should support multiple ciphers. This change should have no impact on batch workflows. Only in a case where the "chacha20-poly1305" is being used exclusively, would customers be impacted. If you are unsure, check the documentation for the SSH / SFTP library or software package being used to connect to Spectrum OnDemand batch and determine which ciphers are supported.
For reference, the following SSH ciphers will continue to be supported:
"aes128-ctr"
"aes192-ctr"
"aes256-ctr"
"aes128-gcm@openssh.com"
"aes256-gcm@openssh.com"
This change will go into effect on Friday, November 8th, 2024.
