Hi, I have several times experienced problems when using pack table, both with simple and advanced option. I get an error message saying that MapInfo cannot write to the map file and to check if the file is open in another program. When clicking retry, it sometimes works in the simple pack option, but it also happened that one file is not created resulting in a table that is not mappable. Sometimes, a set of files named for example ~MAP0159 is created.

Anyone with advice what I should do to avoid these problems? And how to make a table mappable again?

I'm using the latest version of Discover MapInfo bundle.

    Thanks,

    Martina

Do you by any chance have your tables stored in a folder that gets synchronized, ie. OneDrive or Dropbox?

Yes, they are in a folder on Dropbox to be available for other group members. So that is causing problems?

Yes, it can cause these things.

One suggestion could be to pause the sync on Dropbox for half an hour or so when you pack your tables, and even when you create new.

I reached out to Dropbox to see if there was a way to automate that but that wasn't the case.

You will need to click on the Dropbox icon in Windows Taskbar, click on the Sync menu, and then select the period you want to pause syncing.

We have also seen this issue occur at our site, with files on local and / or network drives. But similar to Dropbox / OneDrive cause as noted earlier it was due to another process interacting with the file at the time of packing. In our case it was anti-virus software, Trend. You may be able to whitelist MapInfo files, though IT departments are not typically keen on that.
