One of the most common MFX mysteries
You open the SYSOUT and see:
WER046A SORT CAPACITY EXCEEDED
WER151B SECONDARY EXTENTS OBTAINED
WER177I TURNAROUND SORT PERFORMED
WER999A UNSUCCESSFUL SORT
Now what? 😅
The secret is in the last letter of the message.
Quick decoder:
- A = Action → Something is wrong, the job may stop
- B = Tuning → MFX sharing performance/workspace hints
- C-I = Informational → MFX explaining what it is doing
A few messages every MFX user eventually meets:
- WER039A → Not enough storage
- WER046A → SORTWK/workspace exhausted
- WER061A → I/O issue
- WER151B → Additional disk extents obtained
- WER177I → MFX made an internal processing decision
- WER999A → The sort has ended unsuccessfully
Bonus tip: If the message starts with ICE instead of WER, you're probably looking at a DFSORT message rather than an MFX message.
Discussion
What's the MFX message you've seen the most:
WER046A, WER061A, or WER999A? 😄
And which one took the longest to troubleshoot?
