In many cases, you can write a query to select records. However, this requires that you specify a condition for selecting the records.

There are situations where you need to select individual records or groups of records in a browser.

Let's look into the Selection tools that MapInfo Pro provides access to.

    Happy #MapInfoMonday!

Manually Selecting Records in the Browser Window

The browser window only has one tool for selecting records: the Select tool.

You can find the Select tool on the Table tab. If you already have the Select tool active in the map window you will also have it active in the browser window.
You can select individual records by clicking on the margin to the left of the record values.
You can select multiple individual records by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking in the margin for multiple records.
Similarly, you can select a list of records by selecting the first and clicking on the last record while holding the Shift key down. This will select all the records between the first and last record.
If you need to select all records from the browser window, click on the square in the upper left corner of the browser window. This will select all records currently in the browser window. If you have added a filter to the browser window, only records meeting the condition in the filter will be selected.
Remember you can at any time use Clear Selection to unselect all records. This can easily be done using the Ctrl+W shortcut.
In an upcoming article, we will look at the Selection tools in the map window.
