Last week, @Alexis Ha raised a question about closing multiple windows in MapInfo Pro. That made me think about how we allow you to close tables and windows in MapInfo Pro.

I guess we all know this situation after having done a bit of work in MapInfo Pro, we have several tables and windows open and we now want to close some of these.

    Closing Windows

Since forever, you have been able to close a window using the small X in the upper right corner of the window. This is still the case in 64-bit MapInfo Pro.

These days, you can also find a list of open windows in the Windows List in the Workspace Explorer Window. From here you can right-click on a window, and close it.
You can even select several windows in the list and so quickly close all selected windows.

    Closing Tables

There are several ways to close tables in MapInfo Pro.

The obvious method is to use either Close Table or Close All from the Close dropdown on the Home tab.

From the Close Table dialog, you can close a single or several tables. Just select the table or tables you want to close and hit the Close button.
From the Close dropdown, you can also close either all queries or all unnamed queries with a single click. This makes it easy to close down the many queries you can create during a session in MapInfo Pro. You can also find the option to close queries on the SQL dropdown on the Table, Map, and Spatial tabs.
You can also use the Table List to close tables. Select the table or tables you want to close, right-click on the selected table(s), and select the Close menuitem.
Keep in mind that the Table List allows you to order the tables by name or by when the table was opened. Furthermore, the Table List also allows you to group the tables by type. This makes it very easy to find tables or a specific type such as Queries.
If you for instance often use the Close All or Close Table feature, you can add it to the Quick Access Toolbar at the top of the application. This makes it easy to access.
I hope you found this helpful. Happy #MapInfoMonday!
