Important Notice: Change to County-Equivalents Units in the State of Connecticut, US

    Dear Customer,

We are writing to inform you of a significant change to the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) codes for Connecticut. Effective 1 September 2024 the State of Connecticut has transitioned from using counties to planning regions as county-equivalent geographic units in all our Geo Addressing services.

This change is a result of the State's formal request to the U.S. Census Bureau. The Census Bureau began implementing this change in 2022, and by 2024, all Census Bureau operations and publications utilize the new county-equivalent boundaries, names, and codes.

    Please note the following changes:

    • Number of County-Equivalent Units: Connecticut will now have nine county-equivalent units, known as planning regions (Table 1 & Figure 1).

    • FIPS Code Changes: The FIPS codes associated with each geographic unit will be updated to reflect the new planning regions (Table 2).

Please be aware this change may impact your current data analysis, reporting, or mapping processes that rely on Connecticut's county-level data. We recommend reviewing your systems and workflows to ensure compatibility with the new planning region-based data.

If you have any questions or require further assistance, please contact our customer support team.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Ashmore
