  • 1.  Customizing the 64 ribbon interface

We have for many years used 32bit Version for editing maps and its fast/swift and every button is within reach without any clicking in menyes (or expanding ribbons). So to save time I want to customize user interface so you get like a "super ribbon" with everything you need at 95% of the time. That way you dont have to expand and look in other ribbons for most used buttons. Anyhow what is the best practice here?

I know I could add it with Mapbasic in a custom ribbon but I found there is a way to customise the ribbon interface like you want it thru the GUI and adding a "New Tab" and "New Group". It takes a while that way but since its only a few computers that will have this "Edit look" it might be easier just to use the built in customizing functions here? Also can I distribute this setup to another computer? like a file with all the settings.

Anyway new Ribbon names does not seem to stick/ save when I set up a new custom ribbon with the GUI.  Also the buttons added to the Quick access toolbar does not stick either, once restart those are gone and the new names to an added custom group in the ribbon is renamed to NewTab7

    Hey Martin

Check the section 8. Ribbon & Tool Window state in the 13 Preferences to check and configure in MapInfo Pro article.

The ribbon state must be saved either automatically when MapInfo Pro is shut down or manually when clicking on the Save Current state.

I prefer to do this manually when I make any changes I want to keep.

Found the manual way to work better too, I had the Save state on Exit before but it seemed not save everything for some reason, but I will run with the manual setting.

PS: I would also recommend creating custom Map Mini Toolbars for specific tasks such as Analysis, Drawing, and so on.

I now read up on the settings and tried customizing the ribbon from the GUI, but its crashing  all the time. Also without any message or so.

I use v2023 build 142.  At one instance I got all the tools in there in a new Tab(custom) and with three new Groups(custom), but then I ran it and again crashed and my custom tab was gone :(

I read about you could Switch On detailed error logging but I did not find where in options to do that. Also I have some mapbasic induced Tabs and I positioned the custom Tab before those, maby its something about the order? Custom tab has to be last or something?

Maybe its better to add all the tools I want in a mapbasic script since that seems to be working ok.?

    Hey Martin

You may have to contact our support team for help with this. Send an email to support@precisely.com.

I have created a few basic custom tabs and haven't encountered any issues. I don't normally use these, though.
