  • 1.  Automation or Templates? Legend - For Colouring based on names/values

    Posted 12-14-2024 06:21

    Hi all

I want to be able to do this following process automatically, (I'm guessing possible solution might be thematic mapping?)

    The Task:

-I have make a legend for my layer and colour each of the boxes in a specific colour based on their naming (e.g. E1, the colours are R/G/B (228/148/0)

-And I have to do it for all the other boxes (E2, IN1...etc).

MY QUESTION: Is there a quicker way to do this besides doing it once and saving it as a template?

I have attached my layers in this link: LEP Zoning - Google Drive

    Hey Alexis

This is how I would do it.

    1. Open the table in MapInfo Pro. It seems that the objects have the desired color and an attribute (full_descr) with the name for the legend.

    2. Make sure you have WindowHelper running. If you haven't installed WindowHelper, download it from the MapInfo Marketplace
    3. From the Map tab, click on the Static Theme control.
    4. Select the Zone table and column holding the description for the legend in the Static Theme dialog
    5. A Thematic Map has now been added to the map based on the existing styles in your objects and the text in the selected column.
    6. Add your map to your layout. Select the frame with the map and click on the Legend control on the Layout tab.
    7. In the Create Legend - Choose Layers dialog ensure only the thematic map has been selected, and click on Finish. You can also go through the entire wizard and adjust the legend using the wizard.
Finally, you have your map and your legend in the layout. You can change the number of columns by changing the width and height of the legend frame.
You can also save this as a thematic template with colours and values and apply this to another table. This is useful if your objects have the attribute value but not the colours.
I hope this helps you out.

PS: Hopefully, you have already created an account to use the Marketplace and the Precisely Map and Services. I know we are currently having an issue signing up for a new account.

PPS: The sign-up issue has been fixed. You can now sign up for the services as access to the MapInfo Marketplace again via the Service tab on the Backstage (the Pro tab)
