Split region tool

Where is the Split Region tool (or an equivalent) in Mapinfo Pro 17 (64 bit).

It was in the MapCAD tool in Mapinfo 15 (32 bit). But I note that the MapCAD mbx doesn't work in 64 bit versions of Pro.

    Thanks,
    Stuart

    Stuart,
    It's under the 'Spatial' TAB,
Select the object, set target , then select the splitting line and the 'Split' drop down button becomes active, there's 'Split Target using Polyline'.
    Cheers

OK, thanks. I did look in in the Spatial>Edit area but I didn't see it (that's where I assumed it would be as I use many of those tools). I must have missed it. OK, I'll look again.

    Thanks,

You can find the Split Region using Polyline Tool in the Split dropdown in the Edit group on the SPATIAL tab.
Does of course require that you have the version of MapCAD designed for MapInfo Pro 64 bit.

    Hi Peter,

Do you know where I can obtain a version of MapCAD tool that is compatible with 64bit?

    Thanks,

    Stuart

    Hi Stuart,
The version that comes with MapInfo Pro is compliant.
If you are using MapInfo Pro 17.0, you can find it in this folder: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\1700\Tools\MapCAD
    <username> is your Window username.

If you are using older versions, you can find it in the MapCAD folder in the MapInfo Pro installation folder.

    Thanks for that, Peter.

This is definitely different from the Split Region tool in MapCAD in Mapinfo 15 32bit. That one was very easy to use. You just selected an object in an editable layer, selected the Split Region tool and drew a line through the object. It then split the polygon there and then. Great tool as it circumvented the whole palaver around drawing your polyline first and setting targets objects etc.

The Split Region using Polyline tool is different in that it seems to want target settings. So far, I've not got it working, but I'll keep trying.

Does anybody know what happened to the Split Region tool that was in MapCAD mbx for Mapinfo 15 (32 bit)? Did it come over to Mapinfo 17?

    Thanks,

    Stuart

    Hi Stuart

You may find that MapCAD is already running.

This adds the tools/functions into various parts of the ribbons and sections.
    Not a separate ribbon.
Why they have changed the behaviour though - I don't know.

    That's weird, Stuart.

In my version it works exactly as you expect:
    1. make the layer editable
    2. select a polygon from the layer
    3. select the tool
    4. draw a polyline across the feature
    5. The feature has now been divided

    Peter,

Can you send me a couple of screenshots of the Split Region tool you are successfully using in MI 17, please. I don't seek to have it.

You can send on this thread or direct to stuart.carter@southwark.gov.uk

    Many thanks,

    Hi Stuart

Don't know if you're sorted but I wanted to try this as it looks like a useful feature for me, I got it working but it needed more steps on mine that mentioned below. Trying the shorter version mentioned left the tool greyed out the whole time for me.

    1. make layer editable
    2. select polygon
    3. set target
    4. select polygon again
    5. draw polyline
    6. select polyline
    7. use the tool to select "Split Target Using Polyline"

    Cheers

We seem to be talking about two different tools. What version of MapInfo Pro are you using? I'm on 17.0.2.

As you can see in the image below, Split Target using Polyline is above the Split Region using Polyline.
The first, uses an already existing polyline as the splitter.
The second uses a polyline that you draw with the tool.

Cheers Peter, maybe the version is the issue? I'm on 17.0

I see this when i select an editible object

And this with a target selected

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for that. But the process you listed...

    "

    1. make layer editable
    2. select polygon
    3. set target
    4. select polygon again
    5. draw polyline
    6. select polyline
    7. use the tool to select "Split Target Using Polyline"

    "

... is very different from the Split Region tool in the MapCAD tool bar in Mapinfo 15.

The Split Region tool works like this...

    ·         Make layer editable and select the polygon you want to split

    ·         Select Split Region tool

    ·         Click outside of polygon object

    ·         Starting clicking (following a street, for example) through the polygon

    ·         Double click outside of the target.

    The polygon then splits. Easy!

    Thanks,

    Stuart

    Cheers Stuart

I discovered I didn't have the CAD tool eneabled so I wasn't seeing the Split Region at all, Now I see that it is indeed much easier.

Do you have the Split Region tool? Where is it? I can't find it in MI 17. Can you send me a screenshot/s, please.

    Thanks,

    Stuart

I had to find the CAD in the registered tools and get that running, then it appeared in the same place as the target one, in the Spatial section, its greyed because I have nothing selected here

    Thanks for that Mike.

Yes, I have that tool. But again, it's just not the same as Split Region in the MapCAD tool bar in MI 15. With these tools you still have to create e a polyline object and set target etc..

However the Split Region tool in the MapCAD tool bar in MI 15 didn't require any of that palaver. You just selected the polygon you want to split, and use the Split Region tool to split it wherever you click through the polygon. Easy.

Maybe the tool doesn't exist anymore.

    Hi Stuart

I seem to be able to do it exactly as you describe from your old version with the split region, just select the region I want to split, click on split region, cursor changes to a little circle with a crosshair in it, click my way across the region, double click to finish and it's split.

Maybe there's something different going on between our machines?

    Stuart,

It sounds as if you are using the Split Target using Polyline tool and not the Split Region using Polyline but I might be wrong.
I used the later last week and it allows me to select a region from the editable layer, select the tool and draw a polyline thru the selected region after which the region is split into two.

Weird if your version of the Split Region using Polyline tool isn't working in the same way.
