1)Open table GB OST50 UK. This can be downloaded from
Exercise 1.
2) Open table Highest Elevation Points UK attached to this post. These two files do not need to be in the same window or in fact even be viewed in a map window for this process to be run.
MapInfo Raster's Point Inspection tool will be used to assign the value from the open source Ordnance Survey elevation grid to the points in the map.
4) Navigate to the Raster tab in the MapInfo ribbon. Select Raster Tools > Point Inspection, set the GB OST50 UK file as the Input File. Set Highest Elevation Points UK as the Select Point Layer.
5) Set Output Mode to Edit existing table.
6)Set Column Name to Elevation from the drop down menu.
5) Click Process.
6) Add the Elevation Points UK to the map and set an expression (Name + " " + Elevation + "m") in the labels settings to show the name and elevation of the highest points in the UK.
