    Hi Rob,

the gdal-suite (included in the QGIs-Setup or available at gisinternals.com) might have all you need.
With gdalbuildvrt you can combine x asc-files to a virtual file and with gdal_translate you should be able to transform it into literaly anything you want.
MiPro utilizes gdal also for some of its raster capabilities and you should be able to open that virtual file build with gdalbuildvrt in MiPro to transform it from there.

    cheers
    Stefan

    Hi Rob
You will need MapInfo Pro Advanced to carry out the Raster operations.
To combine all of your 1km tabs, use the Merge function.
You can then export the resulting MRR file as an asc file.

You can trial the Raster/Advanced module for 30 days - just go to the backstage area and start trial.
MRR is unlimited in file size and no drop off in performance.
Or perhaps you don't have much data?

    Rob,

With the Merge tool in MapInfo Pro Advanced, you don't have to open all 14000 files into MapInfo Pro. In fact, I wouldn't even recommend trying to open all these files into MapInfo Pro.

Instead, you can browse the files from the Merge window and just select them from here.

    Hiya
Its ok, i dont want to pay the upgrade to advanced when we can do the process for free in arcmap and qgis, i just wanted to replicate the process in mapinfo to streamline all of my processes through one bit of software, thanks though. I am trying to get all my staff to only use mapinfo pro but i guess there will be things that need to be done elsewhere.

    Fair enough, Rob.

One other thought: MapInfo Pro v2019 now comes with Python and GDAL preinstalled. If you know your way around these tools, maybe you can use these to convert the raster data?

Hi -when I came across this issue when it came to merging 1000's of contour grid files into one I found that trying to use the merge tools failed when there were to many inputs and at certain point I had to write to an extended tab file due to the contraints on normal tab files.

So I ran the attached to 1 - create an input list and 2. read the list and only merge 2 files at a time -basically merge file a and b to create z then merge z and c, to zz and then overwrite Z etc.

This was written in 2017 and will probably be easier now that MI finally allows python.
