In the coming months you will receive some exciting information about recent changes to Spectrum Spatial Analyst and Location Intelligence Module. We recognize that you need to maximize the value from your technology. We are constantly striving to provide simpler experiences and enhanced capabilities.  We believe to do that we must look at how we can provide one location-intelligent solution for every person, every process, every challenge.

Formal communication will be sent in the coming month explaining this exciting change... but if you want a sneak preview, watch our new exciting video...

Hi @Andy d'Andilly the video looks interesting and makes a show of heat-mapping across several different scenes. This is a feature we are very keen on seeing brought in natively to SSA without requiring end users to load CSV, KML etc... and I know there are a good number of other users and organisations on the community pages that have expressed interest in this as well. A little concerning to see that it looks like the video shows this hasn't been implemented yet , with the heat map layer to be an end-user imported 'Customer Details.csv'.

Are we likely to see this in the next patch or release?

    Cheers

    Hi @William Dean,

thank you for your interesting question.

Yes, as you said, the end users enabled to add vector layers (csv/xls/geojson/kml) can create heat maps and clusters using the User Interface of Spectrum Spatial Analyst application.

Right now, for adding the functionality to create heat maps and clusters to Spectrum Spatial vector layers already in the map - we need to extend the solution. Thanks to the “Integrate” part of Spectrum Spatial we can run a component, the user will be able to select the type of thematic layer to create heat map or cluster, set the opacity and chose the column for using it.  Please, see the screenshot below showing one of our extensions of Spectrum Spatial Analyst.  The extension is needed because we need to load the data as vector layer from the feature service.

Another possibility is to develop a component adding a button to the UI, when the end user click on the button the component add a vector layer in the map. At this point the user can use the heat map and cluster features of the UI.

We might show  a demo of both the above extensions. We can share the codes samples to extend your solution.

Then, we will add this feature in a future release. Andy may add more information about the roadmap.

    Hi @William Dean,

At the moment all our focus has been on reducing the administrative burden placed on clients. This has meant a full redesign of the admin function and it all condensed into a single administration console. This has been a significant undertaking, but will allow us to enhance existing capabilities. As with many developments, we have a small number of internal and external organisations testing the features and providing feedback. The heat maps is one such example. Once we have completed the process, we always look to add it to the next release cycle. I would be happy for you to give access to a test version of the capability; however, it would require you to have a number of items already available. Please feel free to DM me if you are interested.

    Andy

@William Dean to clarify the attached video is of the heat map and cluster POC we built and made available for feedback. "BigDataDemo.mp4".

This example uses a local SQL Server with only 80,000 records but shows the records getting aggregated in the client. As you pan and zoom it fetches a new set of records for the map view. The status in the legend shows how many aggregate records come back (usually 1000 to 2000 at most) and how many original records contributed to these (can be over 80,000 here).
Our big data team have used this over Hadoop and millions of records – we still get back 1000 to 2000 at a time in Spectrum Spatial but each one is an aggregate of many 100,000s records.
