    Keith-- awesome question.  Because I was just looking at the POI product, I'll say POI Brand name.  It's much harder to get that right than you'd think.

    Hi Keith - I agree with Dan (although my opinion is biased!).

    Standardizing the Brandname is quite a complex task due to the many naming variations and brand relationships/subsidiaries that exist (such as Hilton - DoubleTree etc.). We have recently upgraded our processing to use Natural Language Processing (NLP) - and we hope to see good improvements as a result.

    Standardized data is a humongous feat to achieve. There are articles written by data specialists around the globe, speaking of the complexity incurred in standardizing a dataset.

    Business-trade-name, being the most important identifier of a POI, needs to be standardized.

    For example, here are just a few ways of how the famous retail chain 7 ELEVEN is represented by our major vendors like Dun & Bradstreet and TomTom:-

    • 7/11
    • 7 ELEVEN
    • 7-ELEVEN
    • SEVEN 11
    • 7ELEVEN
    • 7-ELEVEN
    • 7-11
    • 711

    No matter which DBMS is being used, taking all the above occurrences into consideration would require the end customer to manipulate his SQL query with the usage of wild cards and the keywords in all possible forms.

    With the help of latest technologies like Natural Language Processing, String-Matching Algorithms like Cosine & Levenshtein, pySpark, Jupiter notebook, etc, we introduced the BRANDNAME column which provides the customer with a single standardized business-trade-name for a POI.

    Brandname Standardization has been successfully applied in 24 major Countries and 3000 distinct Brandnames.

    Personally I love consumer expenditure for canned ham. Or not canned ham if that's your preference. The amount of detail in the demographics data sets is amazing!

    When I worked on World Boundaries project I used to like to go through list of country names translated into 27 languages and learn some of them. Would you guess that "Storbritannia" is "United Kingdom" in Norwegian language?

    hi Keith - for me its the parcel fabric as it can be quite beautiful (I guess in a map-geek kind of way) to look at - especially in subdivisions in the USA with curving lines and everyone's property neatly and properly displayed...

    Great question Keith, it is cool to see some of the things people like most. For me it is the roads data. The immediate practicality of use and how visually pleasing a well themed road network looks puts it to the top of my list.

    Great discussion. I can't help but love the category level in our Geodmographics Psyte and CAMEO. Not just because I had a hand in building them but because I just like categorising places and making it easy for clients to understand the people that live in a place.

    My favorite data attribute would be latitude.     I love spatial data and nothing speaks of spatial data better than latitude and longitude.   Latitude, however, has an edge over longitude in my book because it implies northerly or southerly direction invoking a sense of change in climate.   Whereas longitude seems more political to me whether starting from the prime meridian in Greenwich, England , or crossing the International Date Line.    I just feel one has more latitude with latitude :-)

    "Claimants" from the disputed territories part of the world boundaries premium product is my favorite attribute. From school book empire maps to present news clippings,  political boundaries are constantly being pushed and pulled and this is an obscure, legal-sounding snapshot of present-day changes that will make atlases and globes need a reprint.  Claimants identify the two or more countries claiming a particular piece of land.

    @Colin Mattison - disputed territories are a fascinating aspect of mapping and I am constantly amazed at the number of disputed locations on the globe.  The Falkland Islands (also known as Islas Malvinas in Argentina) are famous disputed territories, but surprisingly there are even disputed features between the USA and Canada (Machias Seal Island and North Rock)  and between the USA​ & Haiti (Navassa Island).  China has the most disputed territories if you count them by disputed feature name with many disputed features between China-India and a host of other countries.  There were large water bodies that even need to be named differently depending on which map consumer is looking at them (for example the Sea of Japan vs. the East Sea). Ongoing conflicts as in the Ukraine (involving Ukraine and Russia for example in Crimea) make it a unique challenge to keep these sensitive borders accurate.

    I'm a history buff, so when I began exploring the Property Attribute dataset to use as a resource for one of our products, I joined the "Year Built" column to some parcels for a few locals.  I categorized the Year Built column assigning shades of blue to each parcel based on how old the house was. From there I could clearly see how the town had developed over the years.

    There are alot of great ones, but I'm partial to "Income".  Income can be used to enhance or suppress your mailing for potential optimization of client campaigns, etc.  It's great to have a consumer record to market to, but if you are marketing a $100,000 car to someone that makes $25,000 a year, your campaign will fall flat and your wasting marketing dollars.
