Great news for counsels and organizations doing business in the UK.

'As part of the Prime Minister’s London Tech Week roundtable today, the Government has announced that key parts of the OS MasterMap will be made openly available for the public and businesses to use.'

@Alistair Dalton? how will this change how you do what you do (eventually), or is it new applications you are interested in?

Hi Dave. I work in Flood Risk/Hydraulic Modelling and OS MasterMap is integral in building and improving the accuracy of the models. Large clients we work for tend to have licences for the data but smaller clients sometimes find the costs prohibitive. This will only go towards us being able to consistently build more accurate models and results improving the picture of flood risk in the UK.

A true testament to OS data – democratized data that should lead to better quality of life and lower cost. Sometimes the government gets things right I suppose.

    Yes they do sometimes!

The release of the Environment Agency's LiDAR data to Open Data last year also helped my industry massively!
