  • 1.  MapInfo connection to MapInfo License Manager

    Hi
We're going to be deploying our MapInfo License Manager into a Public Cloud environment.  All traffic between our desktop environment (where MapInfo Pro will be deployed) and the cloud environment will be subject to L4/L7 inspection for malware detection, intrusion prevention, etc..
I'm trying to figure out :-

    • What protocol is used for MapInfo Pro --> License Manager traffic?
    • Is there any bespoke encryption on that session?
    • Can the MapInfo Pro/license manager session cope with L4/L7 inspection?
    • Is there any kind of a session authentication?
    • Is the connection always initiated outbound from the MapInfo App to the License Manager?

    Thanks!

    Hi James

There is a bit more detail here:
    https://customer.precisely.com/s/article/How-to-find-the-URL-PORT-and-Protocol-for-the-MapInfo-License-Server-Utility?language=en_US

And this post describes how you can manage what ports are being used by the MapInfo LSU:
    https://customer.precisely.com/s/article/How-to-configure-Port-settings-for-the-MapInfo-Pro-License-Server-Utility-LSU?language=en_US

I know we are looking into using HTTPS instead of HTTP. I'm sure @Andrei Veselov can share a bit more details on this.

    James,

Here is an article from Flexera (our licensing vendor) that explains how client software communicates with the license server:
    https://community.flexera.com/t5/FlexNet-Publisher-Knowledge-Base/Communication-encryption-between-lmgrd-vendor-daemon-and-client/ta-p/170554

As you can see from the article, some additional security changes will be available in their next release.

    Hope it helps,
    Andrei
