Deleting Map Windows and Other Issues

Up until recently, I could delete existing map windows by clicking the upper right and it would be removed from Explorer.  The window closes but remains in Explorer and reappears when clicked.  The map windows were not created by me but rather opened directly from a query (which is also new).  Is there an option that controls this that somehow got changed?  I also can't get rid of the "No Active Legend" box in a Map Window with with no theme layers (also new).  Any suggestions?

    Hi Rex

Just noticed you haven't had any responses to this yet.
    Did you find a solution?

Do you by any chance have an add-in running that interferes with your windows?
The Legend box in the Map window typically gets added by the (Thematic) Legend Manager tool.

When you close the windows, you are using the small cross in the tab, right?

You can also use the Close option in the Context menu for the individual window in the Explorer window. Does that make a difference?

I was able to close map windows by restarting but it appears that sometimes the program gets in a state that requires restarting.  As to legends, don't know if defaulting to having a legend was part of an upgrade but it used to be that you had to add the legend.  After closing the legend, if a theme is active, there is a box saying "No legend" which can't be deleted.  Note that I almost always create maps directly from the map window (rather than layout).

Rex, can you share a screenshot of how this looks in your MapInfo Pro?
Maybe that gives us some hints to what is going on.

    Thanks

See attached - as shown if you deselect displaying the legend but still have theme it shows "No Legend".

    Hi Rex

One suggestion is to clone the map window. I don't think that will also clone the embedded legend.

I assume the embedded legend has been saved to a workspace and is then recreated when you load the workspace. Do you also get the embedded legend window if you close all and open a table into a new map window?

I tried that.  It may be that I'm unusable in that I don't use the layout windows.  I did the following:

    - Opened workspace with no themes (and no legend box on map).
    - Added a dot map and selected "No Legend" in "Legend:  Into Window".
    - Legend window appears anyway with default title and information.
    - Under "Modify Thematic Map: Legend" de-select "Show Legend for the Layer" and Legend box goes to "No active legend".
    - Delete map and legend box still remains.
    - Delete layer used for map and legend box still remains.

I can work around it but it would be nice to be able to default to not having a legend as with previous versions.
