Thanks Peter. That doesn't work unless you start from an area that does not have an object such as a box. I always have several text boxes and legends and images with a border box beneath them. When I use your method it simply grabs the underlying box and moves it.

The Select tool in the layout lets you also use it as a Marquee Select.
Hold down the left mouse button, and move the mouse and you can see the marquee being drawn in the layout.
