    Happy #MapInfoMonday,

In today's article, I'll show you have easy it is to add an existing image file to a layout.

Those of you who have been using MapInfo Pro for many years may remember that back in the classic 32-bit version of MapInfo you would have to open the image into a map window in MapInfo Pro and then add this map window to the layout. This process is far easier with the 64-bit versions of MapInfo Pro.

    Adding an Image

With the new Layout Designer that we started introducing in the last 32-bit releases of MapInfo Pro, we made the process of adding an image much easier. And when we switched to 64-bit, we also removed the classic layout window to focus on the new Layout Designer window and there we now just call it a Layout window.

Currently you simply select the Insert Image option from the Layout tab and select the image that you want to insert into the layout.

Afterward, you can manually resize the image frame or you can right-click the image frame and specify the size of the frame from the Frame Properties dialog.

    Missing Image File

If you open a workspace with a layout where the image file can't be found, MapInfo Pro will show an error in the image frame as you can see below. This gives you an option to manually locate the missing file.

Are you already using images in your layouts? If you are, what type of images are you using? Is it mostly a logo like mine above? Are you also inserting photos? Have you considered using this method for adding legends to your map?
